Real talk guys, I am not diggin’ this heat right now. Summer is winding down, shouldn’t it be getting cooler? Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love summer, in fact it’s my favorite season. Flip flops, ice cream, barbecues, pretending I’m too bougie to swim […]
Thanks for joining me for the first ever installment of (drumroll please) Girl vs Groceries! I’ll be sharing with you the interesting items that I find on my ventures to yes you guessed it, the grocery store. Leggooo!
Costco and Sams are without a doubt the go to places for buying the best food in bulk at great prices. Though we’re pleased that we can buy industrial sized boxes of Lucky Charms, what we really come here for… are the samples. It’s basically a Sample Wonderland: A magical place where you can basically have a meals worth of samples. I can’t be the only one that goes on a sample tour, right?
Recently my mom and I went to Costcos. We were there to get the essentials but as we walked by the food area I saw a crowd forming around a cart. That means only one thing, samples! It was meant to be, because I skipped lunch and my stomach was making beastly noises. The sample was something I’d never heard of: Focaccia bread.
Focaccia is a flat oven-baked Italian bread product similar in style and texture to pizza dough. It may be topped with herbs or other ingredients. Other countries and cultures have Focaccia as well. This particular brand ‘Kermanig’ sells authentic handmade Mediterranean Focaccia. Basically it tastes like pizza but lighter, crispier and way less greasy. Dare I say, it tastes just as good if not better than pizza? It’s Vegetarian and only 120-140 calories depending on the flavor. Can we get a round of applause for healthy snacks that don’t taste like cardboard?!
I’m not ashamed to say that I had not one but two samples. Once my mom tried it I didn’t even have to convince her; I was prepared to put on my puppy dog eyes. There was actually a deal that day, buy 3 packs for 13$. Each pack has 3 pieces of bread… Sold. All the flavors taste great but Spinach was by far my favorite. If Spinach isn’t your thing, don’t worry! There are plenty of flavors to choose from so there’s something for everyone. I highly recommend these. The fresh tasting ingredients, the heavenly aroma of garlic wafting throughout your house… But dat crunch tho… the crunch is oh so satisfying. This pizza addict gives these five stars!
If you’re hosting a get together, dinner party, etc. these would definitely impress your guests. They look homemade and they’re technically sort of fresh baked because you just cooked them in the oven! Just arrange them nicely on a cute plate and you’re good to go! No one will guess that they’re store bought (it’ll be our little secret). Here’s how we prepared this:
(Not quite homemade) Focaccia
