Show of hands, who loves French Toast? French Toast is probably my favorite breakfast food. And biscuits. Ok, anything that’s bread and carbolicious. Yup we’ve just added another word to the Foodie Dictionary. Now French Toast is pretty simple right? You’ve got your eggs, bread, […]
Happy National Blueberry Cheesecake Day! In honor of the day I made…blueberry muffins. Yeahhh…it’s at least something with blueberry in it.
Ok here’s the thing, I just finished making blueberry muffins and was randomly scrolling through Twitter and discovered that it’s what??? National Blueberry Cheesecake Day! Geeze that’s a mouthful. We’re going to make this an acronym folks. From here on out it’s NBC day. Ooooh ok…that’s not gonna work. Ok, Happy NBCD! Anyway, I’m sorry to disappoint you food fans. If I can find an awesome blueberry cheesecake recipe today I’ll give it a shot! Do you guys have a cheesecake recipe for me? Leave it below so we can celebrate NBCD right!
Until next time food lovers! Happy NBCD!
Ok so this isn’t from THE Coney Island (Random fact: I’ve never been to New York. Crazy right?). This cheese laden creation comes from Coney Island in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This little spot has been serving up hot fresh chili-cheesiness since 1926. What we have here […]
Hello fellow foodies! Time for another post about doughnuts! Quiz time. Which lovely doughnut shop did this little beauty came from?
A) Krispy Kreme
B) Dunkin’ Donuts
C) None of the above
If you guessed C) ladies and gentlemen you are correct! Thanks for playing food fans! This delightful delicacy is homemade. Kinda. Would you believe me if I told you this doughnut was made from Pillsbury biscuit dough? Believe it baby!
Today we’ve got a quick and easy doughnut recipe that my friends and I came across on BuzzFeed. If a couple of college kids can do it, anyone can!
If you’d like to watch the folks down at BuzzFeed make this tasty treat click here!
(Almost) Homemade Doughnuts
Canned Pillsbury biscuits (or your favorite canned biscuits!)
Separate biscuits and create a hole in the middle. In the BuzzFeed video it looks like they’re using a shot glass but you can use a champagne flute, any other small drinking glass or you could cut out the hole with a knife. Use what you’ve got! Once you’ve created your doughnut don’t throw away the little hole! How illogical did that sound? Wow. I just told you not to throw away a hole. But you guys know what I mean! We can use those to make doughnut holes! Moving on… put your oil in your pan and cook your doughnuts and holes on medium heat. Make sure you have enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan. We’re doing some serious frying here people. Let your doughnuts cook until the underside is a nice golden-ish brown color and then flip and repeat. Easy right?
Now for the glaze! BuzzFeed showed us how to make a basic glaze, a chocolate glaze, and a cinnamon sugar topping. We kept it simple and stuck with the cinnamon sugar and the basic glaze.
The cinnamon sugar topping is self explanatory. No surprises or crazy ingredients. If you’re feeling a little lazy you can actually purchase a bottle of cinnamon that’s already mixed with sugar. I believe McCormick has this mixture and you can pick it up at Walmart. Or you can do it yourself. I know I know, so complicated!
The glaze is actually pretty simple as well. BuzzFeed used:
2 cups of powdered sugar
4 tablespoons of milk
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Combine in a bowl using a mixer or a spoon
We actually didn’t follow the directions to the letter. We just kind of winged it with the sugar and milk and we didn’t use vanilla. So if you don’t have vanilla don’t worry, they’re still going to taste FANTASTIC!
This food hack earns my college-kid proof seal of approval!
Until next time food lovers!
I live for Krispy Kreme doughnuts. I’ve defended Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Anytime someone has tried to rant about how amazing Dunkin’ Donuts is, I’ve had to say, “Uhhh excuse me, Dunkin’s got nothin’ on Krispy Kreme.” They just taste lighter and yummier and just…I don’t know, they’re just […]
