Fun fact: I used to work at a coffee bar on my college campus. Definitely one of my favorite jobs thus far. The fast paced environment, the whir of the blenders, the pshhh of the milk steamer…glorious. At the coffee bar we made various coffee drinks, milkshakes, and best of all… custom smoothies. After working there for 3 years, I’d like to think that I’m a bit of a smoothie aficionado. Working at the coffee bar gave me the confidence to experiment with different smoothie ingredients at home. I have a couple of little concoctions that are downright delightful if I do say so myself, but I’ll share my absolute favorite with you. Let’s just call it, “Liquid Sunshine”.
I typically use frozen fruit so that I can enjoy my fruity goodness in mere minutes. Yes, I’m an impatient little madam. If you’ve got the time, go ahead and cut up some fresh fruit! In the event that you do decide to use frozen fruit and are watching your calories, be mindful of the type of frozen fruit you’re buying. If you buy the frozen fruit that has fruit syrups or added sugars in it, this will of course up the calories. All of the frozen fruits you’ll see in the above photo have no added sugars, but trust me… I have a serious sweet tooth and this smoothie was perfect for me. I’m not down for drinking sour/bitter smoothies all for the sake of being healthy or trendy. If it doesn’t taste good, I ain’t havin’ it!
For this smoothie recipe, you’ll need to grab a bottle of Welch’s Refreshingly Simple Juice. But why can’t I just use the apple juice in my fridge? I get it. I love apple juice too! The answer is, you totally can. It’ll still taste great! But I have a reason for recommending this specific juice. I’ve used several different juices in my smoothie making ventures but the Refreshingly Simple Juices are my favorite. They taste great and there are no artificial sweeteners, artificial preservatives or high fructose corn syrup. Best of all, No weird aftertaste. All for the low low price of 100 calories. Score.
Note: This recipe is modified for the use of frozen fruit, eliminating the need to use ice. If you use fresh fruit, you will need some ice to give your smoothie a lil’ thickness! The amount of ice you need depends on how much fruit you use. The more fruit you use, the less ice you’ll need. I’d start with 1 cup of ice or so and if it’s still to thin for your taste, gradually add more based on your preference.
Summer's not over just yet! This simple smoothie recipe is refreshing, light on calories and will have you out the door in minutes.
- 1/2 cup pineapple diced
- 1/2 cup peaches sliced
- 1/2 cup strawberries sliced
- 1 banana sliced
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt (optional)
- 1 cup Welch’s Refreshingly Simple Juice: Peach Mango or Strawberry Raspberry
Combine ingredients in blender.
Blend till smooth(ie). See what I did there? Yes, I'm corny.
Here’s a tip for the smoothie maker with a busy schedule: Slice and freeze your banana the night before and store it in a Ziploc bag so that it’s ready to go in the morning. You can also measure out all of your fruit the night before and bag it up so that you can toss everything in the blender right away.

So what’s new (besides that new blog smell)?!
As you may have guessed from the new name, movies will be the new added content. But not just any movies, classic films. I’m a huge movie buff period, but classic films are very dear to me. From the music to the well-rounded actors, it ain’t called the Golden Age of Hollywood for nothin’! So here’s what’s gonna happen: Tuesday and/or Thursday I’ll share a food fact, grocery discovery, restaurant experience or recipe. On Saturdays I’ll share a movie review, talk themes, music, whatever comes to mind. You’ve heard of wine pairings? Well we’re doing movie pairings ya’ll. If I’m feeling extra fancy, I’ll prepare a dish that pairs with that specific movie or maybe I’ll just prepare a bomb snack that I was craving. To be honest pizza is my usual movie companion (and about 40% of my diet) but I’ll try to branch out for you guys. Sacrifices. Fare thee well Papa John’s.
Me being the movie addict that I am, I have a never-ending list of movies that I want to watch at some point.
